Ramon Harris and Perry Stevenson are the only players in modern history who have played for three coaches at the University of Kentucky.
The two players were recruited and signed as part of Tubby Smith’s last recruiting class in what has been a rare coaching pattern at the school. Harris and Stevenson endured two seasons under Billy Gillispie and have spent this past season standing in the shadows as part of a Kentucky team that hasn’t enjoyed this much success in five years.
Harris and Stevenson, along with Mark Krebs and junior Patrick Patterson, will be honored during the school’s Senior Day festivities prior to Kentucky’s regular season finale at noon Sunday against Florida at Rupp Arena.
Patterson is expected to enter the NBA Draft this summer and will graduate this spring with a degree in three years. That’s impressive for a player of Patterson’s stature and a rare feat for collegiate student-athletes. His dedication in the classroom is a testament of his will and desire as on and off the court.
Patterson came to Kentucky after Smith departed for Minnesota and has been a valuable member of the team for the past three years. During his career, Patterson suffered a stress fracture in his left ankle that wiped out the final five games of his freshman campaign.
Although a post player for most of his career, Patterson has blossomed into more of a perimeter threat under John Calipari.
Patterson’s development and growth under Calipari will make him a valuable commodity in June during the annual NBA Draft.
Harris started the last 21 games as a junior, but has served as a primary backup in his final season with the Cats. Stevenson was a regular contributor in his first three years, but has been standing in the shadows this season.
Krebs transferred from Thomas More College and was a walk-on for two seasons before he was awarded a scholarship last fall. For Krebs, his experience at Kentucky has been a dream come true.
Krebs is one of three Kentucky players on the team and knows what it’s like to grow up following and admiring the Wildcats.
Senior day is always emotional. This one won’t be any different.
