Sheriff returns excess fees to court

March 11, 2010

Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue returned more than $44,000 in excess fees to the Fiscal Court on Wednesday, providing a financial boost to the county budget.

Perdue presented a $10,470 check for excess fees in 2008 and a $34,231 check for fees in 2009.

The Sheriff’s Office collects various fees throughout the year. Any funds that remain after paying for the office’s operation must be given to the Fiscal Court under state law.

Officials praised Perdue for returning the money.

“This is the first time since I’ve set on the court in eight years that we have gotten excess fees back from the sheriff’s department,” said Magistrate Pam Blackburn.
