Shannon Ramey is having a pretty good week.

After notching a hat trick in a 10-0 win over Mason County Monday, the junior scored all four goals for the George Rogers Clark High School girls soccer team in a 4-0 win over Lexington Christian Academy Tuesday in Winchester.

Ramey scored the first goal just before the 10-minute mark off a Haley Hannan assist.

Then Ramey had a hat trick in a three-minute span, scoring at 34:31 — thanks to a Maddie Mann assist — and again at 35:01. The third goal came just before the 37-minute mark off an Emma Mitmesser assist.

“Our team was ready and came out firing,” GRC coach Matthew Abner said. “We had a game plan to possess the ball and work to attack once we were in the scoring third. That was exactly what we did throughout the game.”

The Cardinals took a 4-0 lead in to the lockeroom at halftime and never let No. 22 LCA back in the game. Keeper Brennan Woosley had nine saves to anchor the defense.

“It was big to get the goals early and go into the half up 4-0,” Abner said. “I’m very happy with how we are playing, and if we can cotninue to build on how we are playing, we will be hard to beat.”

The Cardinals aren’t just hard to beat, they’re hard to even score against. Tuesday’s win is the sixth team GRC denied an opponent to score. The Cards allowed just two goals  over the past six games to go 5-0-1 over that span to improve their season mark to 7-2-2.

It’s a good time to be playing well for GRC. Of the next four scheduled games for the Cardinals, three are district contests. Perhaps the biggest comes Sept. 19 when they host Bourbon County (10-0-1).

The four-goal night gives Ramey three multi-goal games on the season and raises her team-leading season total to 14 goals.

GRC JV 1, LCA 1

The GRC junior varsity team battled visiting LCA to a tie Tuesday. The Cardinals got a goal from Shelby Vaughn, who scored off a Delaney Manning assist.

Brooklyn Johnson had eight saves.
