Vene VanNamee Vrooman, 77

Vene VanNamee Vrooman, 77, of Saratoga Springs, New York, son of the late Erwin and Gertrude Vrooman, died Monday, September 12, 2016, at his summer home on Galway Lake after a long battle with MS.

He was born in White Plains, NY on February 14, 1939. He was raised in Gouverneur, NY, and graduated from Gouverneur High School and went on to graduate from Hobart College in Geneva, NY, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity.

He joined the US Navy in 1962 and served his country as a LTJG. During his service he spent time in London as well as on the USS Collett. After his service in the Navy, he worked for the NYS Department of Social Services in New York City. He relocated to the Capital District finally settling in Saratoga Springs where he worked for McNeary Realty as a Real Estate Agent.

His many interests in life included lacrosse, horse racing, golf, sailing, backgammon and all games of skill, but his greatest love was bridge where he achieved the level of Grand Life Master.

Vene is survived by his life partner, Kathy Johnson of Saratoga Springs; and his brother Wayne Vrooman of New York City; his three children, daughter Marci Pelayo and husband Ernie and their three children, Angelina, Sophia and E.J. of Winchester, KY, Doug Johnson of Clifton Park, NY, Lynn Clausen of Wilton, NY and daughter Katrina Allen and husband Todd and their three children, Raeanna, Paetyn and Jace of Saratoga Springs.

He will be missed by his family and friends, and also by his Kappa Sigma brothers who enjoyed many years of weekend get togethers at Galway Lake with Vene and Kathy.

There will be no public services. The family suggests that you kindly consider a donation to the National MS Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, NY 10163 in loving memory of Vene Vrooman.
