SerendipiTea!, an annual fundraiser for the Clark County Homeless Coalition, will take place Saturday. The tea will include brunch, cake and a live auction, with all proceeds going to help the Coalition meet its mission of empowering the homeless, volunteer Brett Cheuvront said.

SerendipiTea! will take place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at First Fire at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 2410 W. Lexington Ave.

Tickets are $25 for individuals or $175 for a table of eight.

Tickets are available at the door or by calling the Coalition.

“Seats fill up fast, so it’s best to reserve your seats now,” Cheuvront said.

This year’s tea is sponsored by Traditional Bank and Ale-8-One.

Auction items include items like date packages with hotel stays, gas cards, tickets to local and regional entertainment; “Everything Downtown Winchester” with items donated by downtown merchants, a swim party package to Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation that includes reservation of the community room, decorations and cake; handmade furniture and many others.

“Every item has been donated by the community, and it’s been great to see what things we’ve been able to come up with,” Cheuvront said. “We’re very lucky to have people donate.”

Cheuvront, who will serve as the emcee and auctioneer of the tea, said the fundraiser started in 2011 at a small local cafe, The Colonel’s Lady, and has grown to include more than 100 guests each.

The first event was organized in 2011 by CCHC Executive Director Terry Davidson and Teresa Hodgkin, who was board president at the time.

“There’s a crowd of people who look forward to the tea every year because it’s something fun and different to do while empowering the homeless,” he said.

CCHC board member Tammy Moberly said the tea is a  great way to socialize while supporting a local mission.

“Being at the tea is a fun way to spend time with friends while supporting a great cause,” she said.

Last year, the tea raised $13,200. The goal is to raise $15,000 Saturday.

CCHC was founded in 2009 as a grassroots coalition of community leaders and social service professionals to address the unmet needs of the homeless population in Clark, Powell, Estill and Montgomery counties. In the fall of 2011, the Coalition opened the first ever homeless shelter in Winchester. Wainscott Hall is one of a few  shelters in the state that provides services to families.
