Repairs to a storm-damaged bridge on Venable Road should start in a couple weeks.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet announced Friday afternoon it awarded $44,400 in emergency county road aid funds to Clark County. The bridge spans a tributary of Hancock Creek.

Clark County Road Supervisor Kevin Wilson said the funds will cover half of the projected cost, with most of the balance to be reimbursed.

Wilson said the head wall of the bridge failed during a heavy rain in early August when the county received several inches of rain during a couple hours. The county completed a temporary repair, he said.

“The Bevin administration is committed to the Cabinet’s mission of providing a safe, reliable transportation network for all Kentuckians,” Transportation Secretary Greg Thomas said in a news release. “These emergency funds will help local governments repair and restore damaged infrastructure throughout their communities.”
