Community Education offering classes
The following Community Education classes will begin next week.

Election machines to be examined
The Clark County Board of Elections will be examining the absentee voting machine at 8:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11 in the Clark County Clerk’s Office.
Sylvania retirees meeting Oct. 11
Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram/UAW retirees will have a short meeting at the Union Hall at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, and travel to Natural Bridge Park for lunch at 11:30. All Winchester Sylvania retirees and former employees are always welcome to join us for lunch.
Absentee voting begins
Absentee voting will begin Oct. 11 for Clark County voters who will be out of the county during election day, Nov. 8. Hours for absentee voting at the Clark County Clerk’s office are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9a.m. to noon on Saturday. Grimes is featured artist
The Winchester Black History and Heritage Committee is sponsoring featured artist Le Datta Grimes and “Words to Live By,” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Bluegrass Heritage Museum. Grimes is an award-winning newspaper journalist whose work has appeared in national magazines such as People and Newsweek. She is a PhD candidate at the University of Kentucky, where her research includes early 20th Century African communities and Rosenwald schools.
Class of 1948 meeting
The Clark County High School Class of 1948 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Maddie’s on Main.
Zoning adjustments special meeting
The Winchester-Clark County Board of Zoning Adjustments will have a special meeting and public hearing at 6 p.m. Thursday in the city commission chambers at Winchester City Hall.
County pay grade committee meetings
The Clark County Fiscal Court’s classification and pay grade committee has called the following special meetings for county employees:
— 8 a.m. Wednesday at Clark County Animal Shelter for shelter employees
— 9 a.m. Wednesday at Clark County Animal Shelter for home incarceration employees
— 8 a.m. Oct. 18 at Clark County Road Department for department employees.
First Settlers meeting Oct. 11
The sixth meeting for residents of the Ford and Kentucky River area will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 11 at the First Settlers House on Old Boonesboro Road.
Fiscal court insurance meeting
The Clark County Fiscal Court insurance committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 13 in the courthouse conference room. The only item on the agenda is a presentation concerning open enrollment.
