Two juveniles are facing charges for a string of burglaries last week while detectives try to return the property to its rightful owners.

Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said the two male juveniles were arrested Oct. 18 after a woman saw one of them enter her vehicle and take a wallet. The juvenile fled on foot when she confronted him, Hall said. She tracked the juvenile to a residence in town, he said. When officers arrived and searched the property, they found a stash of stolen property.

The juveniles told police they spent about five hours that night around the area of Elizabeth, Highland, Hickman and Main streets and French Avenue, taking property from unlocked vehicles, Hall said.

“A lot of the items are so small they may not realize they’re missing,” Hall said. “It’s a lot of little stuff.”

The recovered property includes phone chargers, stereo face plates, knives, flashlights, GPS units and wallets, he said.

“We’ve had calls from people reporting other items that weren’t in the stash of property we have,” he said. “Who knows where it ended up.”

The two have been charged with theft and receiving stolen property, Hall said. They are being prosecuted in juvenile court.

Anyone missing property from that night can call Detective Alex Belcher at 355-7459 or the Winchester Police Department at 745-7400.
