Project 1107’s children’s adventure area has been selected as a finalist for the State Farm Neighborhood Assist grant competition.

The playspace is a nearly two-acre blank space for an imaginative, forward-thinking children’s area.

It’s part of the 30-acre iconic green space planned by The Greater Clark Foundation (GCF) at the site of the former Clark Regional Medical Center.

Neighborhood Assist grants are awarded to causes that improve neighborhoods in the areas of education, safety or community development.

The Clark County Children’s Adventure Area was one of more than 2,000 entries for the State Farm grant, and made the cut to the top 200 causes. Causes are selected by the State Farm Youth Advisory Board.

The public will vote for the top 40 projects to receive $25,000 each, for a total of $1 million donated to the nonprofits.

GCF needs the community’s help to win the grant. People can vote up to 10 times a day until 11:59 p.m. Nov. 4 for the project at neighborhoodassist.com/entry/1984080.

“We are honored that our project was selected as a finalist,” Beth Jones, built environment program officer for GCF, said. “The grant would help us design a play space that is innovative and stimulates children for healthy development physically, socially, and intellectually.”

The Children’s Adventure Area will be designed with play spaces that focus on social, imaginative and problem-solving skills, she said.

Groundbreaking for Project 1107 is expected in late 2017.
