The annual Winchester-Clark County Community Thanksgiving service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church, 37 N. Highland Street.

The service is sponsored by the Winchester Clark County Association of Churches and hosted by First Baptist Church. Everyone is invited to attend, and the service is open to all churches and denominations.

Featured during the evening will be “The Big Sound,” a children’s choir formed recently under the direction of Steve Crosby, and an adult Unity Choir, which is being formed to present special music during the service, as well as a liturgical dance.

There will also be a time for praise and worship and a message from Marvin King, pastor of First Baptist Church. Forrest Hahn, pastor of Christview Christian Church, will share from scripture, and Steve Humble, pastor of Winchester Covenant Church, will offer a prayer.

Whit Criswell, pastor of Cornerstone Christian Church, will offer the benediction. An offering will be taken to support the transient ministry, which is administered under the direction of Clark County Community Services.

Several community organizations, including New Beginnings, Clark County Community Services, Trust for Life, Clark County Homeless Coalition, Clark Regional Medical Center and Bluegrass Community and Technical College, will have information tables where anyone can obtain information about the organizations.

A time of fellowship will follow the service, and Cherie Sibley will explain how the food will be served. Appetizers and desserts, sponsored by Clark Regional Medical Center and The Greater Clark Foundation, will be available.

The planning committee for this year’s Thanksgiving service is composed of Marvin King, Raymond Smith, pastor of Broadway Christian Church; Mike McCormick, president of the Winchester Clark County Association of Churches; and Forrest Hahn, vice-president of the Winchester Clark County Association of Churches.

“The Community Thanksgiving service is an annual event here in Clark County; however, this year the service has special significance,” McCormick said. “The ministers of Clark County churches have been discussing and praying about the growing racial tension that exists throughout our entire country. We want people to know that Jesus Christ can break down barriers of hostility, and we are looking forward to coming together to express our common gratitude to God during this Thanksgiving season.”

Volunteers are needed to serve as greeters, which will include assisting with parking, and to help with serving the food. Anyone willing to volunteer should meet at the church at 5 p.m. Nov. 6, before the service at 6 p.m., to receive instructions.
