Puckett leads Cardinals at state

The George Rogers Clark High School cross country team got a lift from Rachel Puckett at the state meet in Lexington Saturday.

Puckett finished 58th with a time of 20:50.13 to lead the Cardinals in the 3A race. Emma Taylor ran a 21:49.26 time for 114th place.

Julia Graves rounded out the top three for GRC with a time of 23:10.67, which was good enough for 186th.

Erika Barker and Ashley McClure finished 221st and 222nd. Emma Bowling finished 234th.

As a team, the Cardinals finished 27th.

GRC’s lone runner in the boys race, Cord Tackett, finished 117th with a time of 17:56.91.

DuPont Manual won the girls team event with Daviess County and Oldham County finishing second and third respectively.

Alena Sapienza-Wright of DuPoint Manual was the top finisher.

On the boys’ side, Yared Nuguse of Manual won, while St. Xavier took first place, Trinity took second and Louisville Eastern finished third.

St. Henry won the girls team event in the 1A division. Lexington Christian Academy won the boys side.

In the 2A division, Louisville Christian Academy won the team event for the girls. Lexington Catholic took home top honors for the boys.
