Joseph F. Doherty, 85, of Winchester, widower of Edith A. Massey Doherty, passed away Sunday at the Clark Regional Medical Center ER.
A native of North Andover, MA, he was born May 13, 1931, to the late Edward and Agnes Hennessy Doherty. He was a 1949 graduate from North Andover High School, United States Air Force veteran from March 1951-December 1953; Korean War 1952 – 50 missions – Kunsan Air Base, Kunsan-By-The-Sea, Korea Engineer-Gunner – B-26 Light Night Intruder bomber – 8th Bomb Squadron discharged from Smoky Hill AFB, Salina Kansas – December 1953; awards earned, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with two clusters, Korean Service Medal, UN Service Medal and Korean War Medal (from Korean Gov’t). Joseph was a retried Printing Presser, he worked for Pierce Lithograph/Frank C. Meyer Corp. from 1954-1974 and Eagle-Tribune from 1974 retiring in 1996. He was a member of St. Michael’s Church in North Andover, MA, and member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winchester. He was a member of the 8th Attack Squadron Association, Graphic Communicators (Printers) Union, Knights of Columbus and Eagle Tribune Associates.
He is survived by son, John J. (Sharon) Doherty of Raleigh, NC; daughters, Nancy Jeanne (Timothy) Whitton of Lexington and Karen Beth (Brian) Clark of Lexington; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral Mass will be Wednesday at 12PM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Frank Brawner presiding. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:30AM until 11:30AM at the Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 S. Main Street. Burial will be in the Winchester Cemetery.
