Kiwanis pancake breakfast Saturday

The Winchester Kiwanis Club is anticipating about 500 people Saturday morning for its annual pancake breakfast.

Club member Coos Ockers said the breakfast has been an annual event for more than 20 years and is one of the club’s biggest fundraisers.

“This money goes right into our main event Walk with a Child, where we take third-graders to buy clothes,” Ockers said.

This year, the club raised more than $14,000 for Walk with a Child. It was enough to take 157 children shopping for clothes at Walmart last month. Each child had about $80 to spend, club members said.

The breakfast will be an all-you-can-eat affair including pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, juice, milk and coffee. First United Methodists Church on Main Street has hosted the breakfast for several years, but Ockers said they may have to find another location in the near future.

“Last year we served almost 500 (people),” he said. “Five years ago we were happy with 350. We may, at some point, have to change the venue because 500 is about the maximum.”

The breakfast runs from 7 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the church’s fellowship hall. Tickets are available at the door for $7 for adults and $5 for children. Advance tickets from club members are $1 less.
