Winchester man killed in Friday crash

Police have charged a woman with driving under the influence and second-degree manslaughter for a crash that killed at Winchester man Friday.

Robert Hatler, 23, died at the scene of a crash at Athens Boonesboro road and Hays Boulevard in Lexington early Friday morning.

According to published reports, Hatler was driving a pickup truck around 12:30 a.m. Friday when 24-year-old Alexandra Rankin allegedly ran a red light. Her car struck Hatler’s truck in the side, causing it to overturn. Hatler was ejected and was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Coroner’s Office.

Rankin was arrested at the scene and charged. She has since been released on bond, according to news reports.

Hatler was a 2012 graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and was a catcher on the baseball team. He was also a graduate of the University of Kentucky and attended Transylvania University, according to his obituary.

A funeral mass is scheduled for Monday.
