When the weather doesn’t cooperate and the holidays approach it’s easy to put off the activities that ultimately improve your mood, jumpstart your metabolism and help you live a longer, happier life.

At your local Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation (WCCPR) there are programs, services and facilities to meet the needs of every community member.

As the Director of Programming at WCCPR, I will be periodically sharing opportunities at our facility geared toward helping you and your family maintain an active, healthy lifestyle. In these updates, I will highlight the activities available to our community and facility members including:

— Indoor Walking Track. This service is free to the community. Join our large group of walkers indoors on our track looking down on the College Park gymnasium.

— Open Gym. Also free to the community during open gym hours. Grab a ball and practice up on your game in our full-sized gym.

— Swimming. Available to our members, pass holders and the public for a daily fee. Swim with friends in our Olympic-sized pool or warm water pool. Lap swim, fitness classes, swim lessons and swim teams are popular in our pools.

— Weight Room. Like the pool, available to our members, pass holders and the public for a daily fee. Our weight room offers something for everyone — treadmills, elliptical, strength training equipment and free weights available for all levels of fitness.

— Fitness Classes. Available to our members, pass holders and the public for a daily fee. We have more than 45 fitness classes across seven days assuring you won’t miss a workout. Classes include TRX, boot camp, water fitness classes, senior fitness classes, Tabata, yoga and more.

— Silver Sneakers Classes. Eligibility required. Join our staff for a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events.

So don’t let cold weather and holiday stress keep you from staying fit. Focus on your health and wellness at WCCPR, where there’s something for everyone. We hope you’ll visit us in your quest for better health.
