A Montgomery County man died after losing control of his car on a wet curve on U.S. 60 Sunday night.

According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, 69-year-old Perry R. Smith of Jeffersonville, was traveling east near the Clark-Montgomery county line when he lost control of his Chevrolet Cavalier.

Smith’s car crossed the centerline and struck a trailer being towed by a passing pickup truck, according to the accident report.

The trailer caused significant damage to the car, and Smith was ejected upon impact.

Clark County Sheriff Berl Perdue Jr. said Smith was transported to St. Joseph Mount Sterling, where he died from his injuries Sunday night.

Smith was alone in his vehicle.

The driver of the pickup truck, 44-year-old Eugene Culton of Winchester, and his passenger were not injured. The truck was not damaged, but a side-by-side utility vehicle on the trailer was knocked off and damaged, the report stated.

The report indicated the road was wet at the time of the crash.
