The George Rogers Clark High School boys basketball team got a good start in district play Friday night with a win over visiting Bourbon County, 66-44.

When the Cardinals (4-4) lost Chase Taylor for most of the first half because of early foul trouble, GRC turned to Jordan Graham to run the point, which he handled ably, tallying nine assists to go with his nine points and eight rebounds.

“Jordan can really see the floor well,” GRC coach Josh Cook said.

The Cards got a big lift from Will Philpot, who finished with a double-double — 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Ryan Cooper scored a team-high 19 points to lead the Cardinals offensively. He also had seven rebounds.

“Cooper took the shots they gave him,” Cook said. “Every game has a certain pace and rhythm. He was able to get into the rhythm of this game and took what the game gave him.”

Taylor returned in the second half and finished with seven points.

As a team, the Cardinals pulled down 38 rebounds and were 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. They were also six-of-12 from beyond the 3-point line.

The Cardinals host Ashland Blazer (1-6) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday before taking part in the Central Bank Classic at Lexington Christian Academy later in the week.
