“Operation Happiness is well and good in its 22nd year,” the Rev. Phillip Ronk told members of the Winchester Kiwanis Club Wednesday. The speaker briefly reviewed the history of the program, noting that the community Christmas basket program was taken over by the Winchester-Clark County Association of Churches in 1970.

Mary Juanita Layne recently was presented a plaque in appreciation of her 47 years of service to the children and families of the Commonwealth of Kentucky by the Department for Social Services.

Rev. Emma Rose, French Avenue, observed her 80th birthday Sunday with a special recognition from the Liberty Road Community Church, Lexington, and the Berean Baptist Church here. The Rev. Mrs. Rose, the widow of Cephas Rose, is a native of Clark County, and was ordained an interdenominational minister in 1936.

Eric Clay led the way Saturday night for the George Rogers Clark High School Cardinals  as they defeated Louisville Manual 77-44 on “The Night of Champions.”

The Winchester Federal Savings Bank entertained its directors, officers and employees with a Christmas dinner Dec. 5 at the Winchester Country Club.
