The Winchester-Clark County Film Society will host its second movie screening Friday night showing a 65-year-old Christmas classic.

The society will show the 1951 version of “A Christmas Carol” beginning at 8 p.m. in the ground floor of the old cafe at 39 South Main St. directly across from the courthouse.

“We went with ‘A Christmas Carol’ because it comes from Charles Dickens,” film society president Rick baldwin said. “And of all the versions of that movie, 1951 is probably the best, and a lot of people haven’t seen it.”

The cost to see the film is a $3 donation to the film society, and all proceeds will go toward the long-term goal of bringing a film festival to Winchester in 2018.

The screening follows the society’s theme of selecting movies that relate to upcoming holidays. At the first screening in October, the society showed “Night of the Living Dead” just days before Halloween. The society had its official ribbon cutting in October as well.

Baldwin said that the next screening will take place in February and will relate in some way to Valentine’s Day.

A new film society has a goal to host an independent film festival in 2018.
