“We opened last October, so we’ve been here just over a year,” she said. “But we used to visit every year with my former business, which I sold last year.”

Carter and other volunteers will visit most of te 170 residents at the nursing home from 2-4 p.m. Saturday.

“We used to try to bring presents as well,” she said. “But the residents just respond so well to the dogs visiting that we decided to focus solely on that this year.”

Carter said anyone is invited and all types of pets are welcome.

“In the past, everyone just brought dogs, but this year have a rescue friend who is bringing cats, a ferret and a bunny,” she said. “We welcome any kind of pet that is well-behaved and properly vaccinated.”

Carter said the annual trip was born of her own heart for animals and the elderly.

“I have big hear for older people and for dogs,” she said. “I fell this is what Christmas is about. It’s about the presents, it’s about sharing the spirit with people and raising other people’s spirits.

“Some of the residents don’t have anyone and they always enjoy getting to love on the dogs.”

The group will meet at the entrance of the facility. For more information, contact Carter at 744-7729.
