According to Greek mythology, the phoenix was a bird that lived for 500 years, burned itself to ashes on pyre and rose from those ashes with youthful vigor. Board members of the Clark County Association for Handicapped Citizens had that myth in mind when they created the Phoenix Housing Corporation. The 1991 Kentucky Class 4A state football champion George Rogers Clark High School Cardinals were ranked 14th in the nation Thursday in the final USA Today Super Top 25 prep grid team rankings. The Cardinals, who finished their season with a 15-0 record, entered the poll three weeks ago at No. 16 and were ranked 14th last week.
