The George Rogers Clark High School girls basketball team took out its frustrations Wednesday.
The Cardinals dropped their first game of the season last week when they lost to Nelson County, 54-52, in the championship game of the Franklin Family Chevrolet Holiday Jam.
Poor Dixie Heights took the brunt of the Cards’ return to action Wednesday. GRC jumped out to a 23-5 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 65-30 win in the opening round of the LaRosa’s Holiday Classic.
GRC (10-1) never gave the Colonels (6-7) a chance Wednesday at Conner.
The lead stretched to 38-14 at halftime.
Seven different Cardinals scored in the win, while no Colonel managed to reach double figures.
The Cardinals were led by Kennedy Igo’s game-high 15 points. She also had seven steals.
Shemaya Behanan had 13 points and nine rebounds. Jasmine Flowers added 12 points.
Elizabeth Hardiman scored eight points while Maleaha Bell and Hayley Harrison each scored six points. Kylee Murray added five points.
The Cardinals nearly had a rematch with Nelson County, who lost to Highlands Wednesday. The Cards face off against the Bluebirds (8-2) at 1:30 p.m. today.
