Parks and Rec holiday hours

Winchester-Clark County Parks and Recreation will be closed Sunday. Facilities will close at 4 p.m. Saturday. Everything will reopen at 8 a.m. Jan. 2.

Sun holiday closing

The Winchester Sun offices will be closed Monday in observance of New Year’s Day. We will not produce a paper that day. Our New Year’s Sunday edition will be delivered early Saturday to allow employees to spend the holiday with their families. We will resume regular publication and office hours Tuesday, Jan. 3. WMU holiday changes 

Residential solid waste will be collected on Wednesday, Jan. 4 for Winchester Municipal Utilities customers that have collection Monday, Jan. 2. WMU will be closed Monday in observance of the New Year’s holiday. Have brown curbits to the curb by 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4. For more information, call the solid waste department at 744-1170.

GRC SBDM meeting 

The George Rogers Clark High School-based Decision-making Council will meet at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the SBDM conference room.

School board to meet Jan. 3

The Clark County Board of Education will hold an organizational board meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, followed by a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. The meetings will be in the Board Room at the Central Office Building, 1600 W. Lexington Ave.

Licensing board meeting canceled 

The Winchester Licensing Board meeting scheduled for Monday, Jan. 2, has been canceled.

County Clerk’s office holiday closings 

The Clark County Clerk’s office will be closed from Friday through Monday in observance of New Year. The office will resume regular hours Tuesday, Jan. 3.

Democratic Women’s Club meeting 

The Clark County Democratic Women’s Club will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Puerta Grande.

FAFSA family night 

Seniors and parents of seniors are invited to FAFSA Family Night from 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 5 at George Rogers Clark High School. The event is hosted by GEAR UP and KHEAA. A light meal will be served. Community prayer service 

There will be a community prayer service at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Cornerstone Baptist Church on Belmont Avenue. There will be prayers for Clark County’s schools, students and teachers; volunteers, churches and non-profits; law enforcement, court workers, emergency personnel and first responders; active duty and retired military; elected and appointed officials; and those in distress.

Christmas tree collection 

Winchester Municipal Utilities will collect live Christmas trees Jan. 16-19. Trees will be picked up on customers’ yard waste collection day. All trees must be free of stands, lights and ornaments. Trees should not be bagged. Have trees to the curb by 7 a.m. of scheduled pick-up day. Trees can also be brought directly to the transfer station for disposal at no cost.
