Who are Winchester and Clark County’s “Unsung Heroes?”

Do you know someone who goes above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference in the community? Let us know!

Maybe it is the schoolteacher who donates money out of his own pocket to provide supplies to children who couldn’t afford them otherwise.

It could be the senior citizen who volunteers at his church or other organizations to help those who are less fortunate.

Perhaps it is the individual who helps everyone in the neighborhood maintain their property.

Maybe it is the business professional who works more than 60 hours a week at her day job and then volunteers just as many hours or more coaching youth sports.

Those are the types of individuals The Winchester Sun wants to recognize with its first ever “Unsung Heroes.” We will feature these in our upcoming Progress 2017 special publication, set to publish Feb. 25.

All these individuals will be nominated by you, our readers, and recognized through your own words. You can look for the entry form in an upcoming edition of the newspaper or you can just send a short nomination letter to news@winchestersun.com by Jan. 31.

The submissions don’t have to be perfect. Just tell us what makes this person stand out to you.

We also would like to know who you think deserves to be recognized as the 2017 Citizen of the Year.

With much the same criteria, tell us who you think had the biggest impact on Winchester and Clark County last year.

Recognizing the people who make our community a special place is a responsibility the Sun embraces. With your help, we can ensure some amazing individuals get the spotlight they so richly deserve.
