Big Blue Woodworks finds a home in downtown Winchester

Jonathan and Rachel Hall said they are proud to call downtown Winchester the home of their business after spending nearly a year operating out their home.

This weekend, the couple will open Big Blue Woodworks in its storefront location at 34 N. Main St. offering a variety of handcrafted wood gifts and home decor.

Jonathan Hall said his venture into woodworking started about three years ago when he stumbled across a photo of a handcrafted wooden turkey call. Being crafty himself and loving to hunt turkey, Hall decided to give the project a try.

“I saw it and thought, ‘I could do that,’” he said. “I started making them and selling them and they really took off, but they were more seasonal.”

Just a couple years later, Hall was asked by a friend to make a wooden monogram, and that project sparked what has become an unexpectedly successful business, he said.

“The business just spiraled out of control from there,” he said.

The couple began selling similar items via a business Facebook page at a rate they could barely maintain, he said.
