A new massage and wellness spa has opened on Lexington Avenue across from Craft Nook and Hammerhead Signs.

Ultimate Massage and Wellness Spa, 1006 W. Lexington Ave., offers a variety of services from owners Beverly Matthews, a massage therapist, and Alicia Cooper, a certified nutritionist, in-form coach, herbalist, reflexologist and foot spa specialist.

“We’ve worked together for seven years at different salons and spas in town,” Cooper said. “But we wanted to create a more holistic environment that was quieter than a usual salon.”

Cooper said her goal is to help educate clients about the supplements and essential oils they can purchase from her. She teaches classes for essential oils as well as cooking with healthy ingredients.

“I know people who have a cabinet full of supplements and they don’t know how to take them or if they need them,” she said. “They can spend a lot of money on them.”

While Cooper will do some body work with clients, Matthews handles the massage part of the business.

“Our massage services include Swedish, hot stone, deep tissue, sports, chair, prenatal and infant,” a news release from the business stated.

The spa also offers a rain drop massage in which essential oils are dropped along the spinal column and gently massaged into the spinal area.

“In the spinal area thousands of nerve endings are housed, so this massage will stimulate and activate a calming to nerves that may be stressed from tension and pain,” the release stated.

Another unique service offered by the spa is a Zyto Compass Bio Health Scan. The scan recommends specific Nature’s Sunshine products, which Cooper sells.

Ultimate Massage and Wellness Spa is open mainly by appointment, but they do accept walk-ins on Mondays and Thursdays.

“It’s just the two of us right now,” Cooper said. “But it’s working well right now because we both have the same goals.”
