The Madison Southern High School boys basketball team outscored George Rogers Clark, 14-9, in the fourth quarter to claim a 45-39 victory in Berea Wednesday.

All but two of those fourth quarter points for the Cardinals came from Jordan Graham, who was outdueled by Southern’s Caleb Miller.

The Eagles got a game-high 19 points from Miller. Graham scored 15 to lead the Cardinals, who had no one else in double figures.

GRC led after the first quarter, 12-8, but the Eagles tied the game at 30 at halftime.

After edging the Cardinals, 11-10, in the third quarter, the Eagles were able to make their free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Of the 23 points scored total in the fourth quarter, 15 of them were from the charity stripe.

Southern’s Miller was supported by Michael Jefferson, who put in 11. Bryar Rose had eight.

Will Philpott had eight points for the Cardinals to go with eight rebounds and four blocked shots.

Graham finished with seven rebounds and five assists.

The loss drops the Cardinals to 15-9. Southern moves to 16-4. The Eagles have lost just once in the past 17 games.

The Cardinals don’t return home just yet, but they will be closer when they take on Montgomery County Friday night in the second game of a girl/boy double header in Mount Sterling.
