Leeds Center’s murder mystery dinner coming Feb. 25

It’s time once again for Leeds Center for the Arts supporters to have a little murder and mystery with their meals.

On Feb. 25, there will be “An Audition for a Murder” at the Winchester Opera House, a dinner murder mystery performance and fundraiser for the 91-year-old theater.

“This is actually our third annual (event),” Leeds board member and play producer Kristi Carpenter said. “The show will start at about 6:30 p.m. with dinner. Throughout the course of the night, the show will play out. We’ll have a couple breaks for people to write questions and ask the cast.”

There will be opportunities throughout the show for audience participation, she said.

“The setting is everyone is coming to audition for ‘Death of a Disco Dancer,’” said Carpenter, who is also part of the cast.

One of the characters, of course, will be killed and it is up to the audience to solve the crime.

The cast of 12 includes actors from the area, including Winchester, Lexington and Richmond, she said. Many cast members regularly appear on the Leeds stage in other productions.

The program has been popular in the past, selling out both shows in advance of the event itself, she said. Tickets are only available online at leedscenter.org for $50 each. Only 200 tickets are available, and they will not be sold at the door, she said. Ticket sales end Feb. 21.

“We’ve sold out the last two years and we expect to sell out again this year,” she said. “We ended up with a waiting list last year of 30 people.”

The evening’s festivities will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a social hour and a cash bar before the show and dinner begin at 6:30 p.m. Throughout the evening, there will be a silent auction and live auctions.
