George Rogers Clark High School senior Cecil Fox took second-place honors in Sweet 16 Academic Showcase chess competition Saturday at Morehead State University.

Approximately 500 students from 57 schools competed in the regional competition. Fox will travel to the finals on March 18-20 at Transylvania University.

Vietnam veterans in Kentucky got a boost from the state recently as a result of the Amended Vietnam Veterans Bonus Program which completed activities on Dec. 31, 1991. Clark County veterans of the conflict received an additional $2,422 in benefits from the bonus program.

The George Rogers Clark High School freshman Cardinals went to Mt. Sterling Saturday and came back with a pair of wins over 40th District rival Montgomery County. The Clark A squad defeated Montgomery’s A team 49-42 while the Cardinal B team won 35-17.
