Winchester Police expect to file burglary charges against a man who injured himself while allegedly breaking into a home Sunday night.

Winchester Police were called to 101 Finley Road at 8:39 p.m. Sunday to a report of a man breaking in through a back door of a residence. When officers arrived, the residents had detained the injured man.

“He went in through a glass door and cut himself and hurt his head,” Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said.

The person, identified as 27-year-old Brandon Vancleve, was transported to Clark Regional Medical Center and then to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment, Hall said. As of Monday afternoon, Van Cleve has not been interviewed by police, he said.

Upon his release from this hospital, Hall said he expects Van Cleve will be charged with first-degree burglary.

The occupants of the home were not injured and nothing was taken from the residence, Hall said.
