A Winchester man was indicted Thursday for leading police on a chase which ended with him hiding inside a house on Old Boonesboro Road.

Daniel Vernon Banks, 33, of 135 College St., was arrested Jan. 6 following the end of the pursuit. According to court documents, Winchester Police were alerted to watch for a stolen Ford Expedition near Clark Regional Medical Center. An officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it near Bypass Road, but it accelerated down Bypass Road at speeds up to 85 mph.

Officers set up spike strips at the intersection with Boone Avenue, which damaged the vehicle. It then turned onto Boonesboro Road and Old Boonesboro Road. Police said the truck stopped at 5925 Old Boonesboro Road and Banks ran inside to hide in a kitchen cabinet. Several children in the home ran outside when he entered, police said.
