Romah Sue Hughes, born March 12, 1956 in Pikeville, Kentucky, died peacefully at her home on March 1, 2017.

She was the daughter of Opal Maynard Cool and the late Robert Cool.

She is survived by a husband, Charles Michael Hughes, two daughters, Katherine Michelle Hines (Andrew) and Elisabeth Paige Sellards (Charley), and six grandchildren, Keira Sellards, Nora Sellards, Ruby Sellards, Beatrix Sellards, Miles Hines and Amelia Hines.

She attended Randolph-Macon Woman’s College, Pikeville College, Eastern Kentucky University, and the University of Kentucky. She held Bachelor’s degrees in history and political science and a Master’s degree in business administration and worked as a Certified Public Accountant for many years.

She was a devoted wife of forty years to her childhood sweetheart. Her greatest accomplishment in her mind was the rearing of her children. She was totally devoted to them and talked daily of the pleasure of homeschooling them and some of their friends. She loved hearing of all their accomplishments and spending time with her grandchildren.

In her later years she took pleasure in teaching Sunday School at her church, The Fellowship of Believers, and teaching children on mission trips. She never smiled greater than when talking about her best friend Jesus to small children. She was passionate about her faith and expressed it best with skits and impromptu dramas at orphanages on those trips.

In writing of her own life she closed with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson, Life is too short to waste In critic peep or cynic bark: Quarrel or reprimand: “Twill soon be dark; Up! Mind thine own aim, and God speed the mark.”

Funeral services will be Saturday at 11am at the Fellowship of Believers, 3421 Combs Ferry Rd, Winchester, with visitation from 10am until the hour of service. Entombment will be in the Annie E. Young Cemetery in Pikeville, KY.
