Maxine Lorraine Robertson Brewer, 98, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt, and devoted friend passed away Friday, March 10, 2017 in Houston, Texas. Born February 6, 1919 to the late William Jennnings “Bryan” Robertson and Lucy Alice “Allie” McKain Robertson in Indianapolis, Indiana, Maxine graduated in 1937 from Cortland High School. She married James J. “Jim” Brewer on November 23, 1939. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1986. She is survived by daughters Deanna McCary (Stephen) of Houston, Texas, and Sharon Jenkins (Larry) of Bloomington, Indiana, grandson Kevin McCary of El Paso, Texas, granddaughter Kirstin McCary Parker (Kyle) and great grandchildren Pierce, Layla and Nash Parker of Fort Worth, Texas, sister Joan McFadden of Seymour and Madison, Indiana; six nieces and one nephew, two great nieces and five great nephews. Also surviving are several cousins with whom she has maintained close ties. She was preceded in death by brothers Don Robertson in 2007, Merle Robertson in 2015; and niece Julie Robertson in 2013.

Maxine and daughter Deanna lived in Rhode Island in the 1940’s while Jim was in training in the Navy Seabees. When he shipped out to participate in the World War II landing at Normandy, they returned to Indiana where they lived in Honeytown with her parents, Allie and Bryan Robertson. After the war, Jim and Maxine lived in Indiana until 1953 when they moved with their family to Winchester, Kentucky.

Maxine attended business classes at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky and art classes I Ramstein, Germany. She worked in sales and service positions throughout her lifetime, sharing her delightful personality. She was an ardent volunteer and sought after for her gracious ways and her expert culinary skills. She served for many years as an elder and Sunday School teacher at First Christian Church in Winchester, Kentucky, with a passion for serving others and teaching children. Her dedication, quick wit and friendly smile touched the hearts of all who knew her. In recognition of her noteworthy accomplishments in her community and state, Maxine was given the commission of Kentucky Colonel, which is the highest honor awarded by the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Visitation will take place Saturday, March 18, 2017, from 9–11 A.M. at Voss Chapel with a Celebration of Life Service at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.
