The final weekend of winter is shaping up to be a busy one in Clark County.

Throughout the area, there are events to find cleaner ways to live, find some great bargains, help fight cancer and even help female veterans.

For the past year, Lady Veterans Connect has been working to turn the former Trapp Elementary school into a temporary shelter for female veterans and their children as they deal with issues and adjust to civilian life. Today and Saturday, there will be a yard sale at the school to raise funds for a new furnace for the building.

The group is selling items that were donated to the shelter, but can’t be used, including a variety of clothes, furniture and housewares. There will be baked goods for sale as well.

The sale runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days at the school, 11440 Irvine Road.

Other events

Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, First United Methodist Church will host an event called Clean Living 101.

Throughout the morning, there will be information presented about living more organically. There will be vendors to discuss organic food and farming, personal care items, essential oils and others.

Several vendors will have products to demonstrate and will be able to answer questions. Vendors include Norwex, doTERRA and My Father’s Garden. The event runs from 10 a.m. to noon at the church, 204 S. Main St.

Also on Saturday, New Beginnings will have its first Picnic in the Park fashion show and luncheon as a fundraiser for the crisis pregnancy agency.

The event includes a silent auction and lunch at First Church of God, 2500 Colby Road, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets are available per person or for a table of eight. 

Rounding out the day, dogs are welcome at Bark for Life of Clark County, a fundraising event for Relay for Life of Clark County. According to the event’s Facebook page, the event is designed to honor “canine caregivers” and includes dog-related vendors, demonstration and contests, animal adoptions, photo opportunities, drawings and prizes. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rural King on Bypass Road.
