Strode Station Elementary’s presentation of “The Jungle Book” opens today with showings at 1 and 6:30 p.m. Showings will be the same time Friday at the school.

Director Laura Wilson said the play includes about 80 students, with an additional 40 students having worked in art class to create the costumes and sets that appear.

The story follows Mowgli, a boy in the jungles of India who was raised by wolves, as he works to elude the tiger Shere Khan and make his way to a human village. Along the way he interacts with the easygoing bear Baloo, King Louie, leader of the monkeys and Kaa, a dangerous boa constrictor.

Work for the play began in December, Wilson said, and includes third- and fourth-grade students ages 8 to 10.

Admission is free, but Wilson said donations to the school are appreciated.
