Hydrant flushings continue Thursday  

Winchester Municipal Utilities will be flushing hydrants in the following areas Thursday: Barlow Drive, Bypass Road, Churchill Drive, Colby Road, Estes Drive, Graves Street, Harkins Drive, Holiday Road, Locust Drive, Old Bottom Road, Poplar Drive, Quail Ridge Road, Shelley Drive, Sherwood Court, Snowden Drive, Stefanie Court and Susan Court.

School board meetings

There will be a special meeting of the Clark County School District Finance Corporation at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Central Office, 1600 W. Lexington Ave. The purpose of the meeting is to consider adopting a resolution authorizing the issuance of school building energy conservation revenue bonds for building purposes. There will also be a regular meeting of the Clark County Board of Education at 6:30 p.m. Both are open to the public.

Homemaker Council meeting Tuesday

The Clark County Homemaker Council will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Clark County Extension Office, 1400 Fortune Drive.

5K to raise funds for cheer scholarship

Organizers of the Karen T. Harris GRC Senior Cheerleader Scholarship will host a 5K at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Campbell Jr. High School track. Funds raised at the 5K will be used to give scholarships of $200 to $400 for post-secondary education expenses. Funds collected more than $400 will be donated to the American Heart Association. Registration starts at 9 a.m. and fellowship will take place after the race from noon to 1 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and an additional $5 for children of participating runners/walkers.

Pre-register or donate by emailing ruthannetts@twc.com. The late Karen Harris, a 1990 GRC graduate, coached the championship GRC cheerleading team from 1992 to 2003.

Sylvania retirees meeting April 11

Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram/UAW retirees will meet for lunch 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Blue Isle in Winchester. All retirees and former employees of the Winchester Sylvania plant are welcome.

Fix A Cat Campaign to host guest speaker 

The Fix A Cat Campaign will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Clark County Public Library. Guest speaker Katheryn Callahan, Kentucky state director of The Human Society of the United States, will present, “Kentucky is the worst state for animals. Class of 1948 meeting today

The Clark County High School class of 1948 will meet for lunch at 11:30 a.m. today at Maddie’s on Main.

First Settlers meeting April 11

There will be a meeting for residents of southern Clark County at the First Settlers House on Old Boonesboro Road at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 11.

GRC site-based council to meet

The George Rogers Clark High School-based decision-making council will meet at 4 p.m. Monday, April 10, at the school’s SBDM conference room.

Clark County Democrats meeting

The Clark County Democrat Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Golden Corral.  All registered Democrats are invited.

Community Education classes offered

The following Community Education classes begin next week:

— Personal Safety for Women, 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, April 10 through May 1, $55.

— Diabetic Management Series, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 11 through May 2, free. Held in coordination with Clark County Health Department.

— Home Cooking on the Go, 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, April 11 and 18, $50.

— QuickBooks – Intermediate, 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, April 11-25, $50.

Stool weaving workshop to be held

The Clark County Sassie Craft Homemakers Club is sponsoring a stool weaving workshop at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at the Clark County Extension Office. The class costs $35, which included all supplies. For more information or to register, call the extension office at 744-4682.
