Hydrant flushings continue Friday
Winchester Municipal Utilities will be flushing hydrants in the following areas Friday: Bells Alley, East Broadway Street, West Broadway Street, Church Alley, Gay Street, North Highland Street, East Lexington Avenue, South Main Street, North Maple Street, South Maple Street, Ogden Court, Rev. H.E. Baker Way, Taylor Avenue and Wall Street.
Writers group meeting April 11
The Clark County Writers Group will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, in the Clark County Public Library conference room.
First Settlers meeting April 11
There will be a meeting for residents of southern Clark County at the First Settlers House on Old Boonesboro Road at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 11.
GRC site-based council to meet
The George Rogers Clark HIgh School-based decision-making council will meet at 4 p.m. Monday, April 10, at the school’s SBDM conference room.
Clark County Democrats meeting
The Clark County Democrat Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Golden Corral. All registered Democrats are invited.
School board meetings
There will be a special meeting of the Clark County School District Finance Corporation at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Central Office, 1600 W. Lexington Ave.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider adopting a resolution authorizing the issuance of school building energy conservation revenue bonds for building purposes.
There will also be a regular meeting of the Clark County Board of Education at 6:30 p.m. Both are open to the public.
5K to raise funds for cheer scholarship
Organizers of the Karen T. Harris GRC Senior Cheerleader Scholarship will host a 5K at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Campbell Jr. High School track.
Funds raised at the 5K will be used to give scholarships of $200 to $400 for post-secondary education expenses. Funds collected more than $400 will be donated to the American Heart Association.
Registration starts at 9 a.m. and fellowship will take place after the race from noon to 1 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and an additional $5 for children of participating runners/walkers. Pre-register or donate by emailing ruthannetts@twc.com.
The late Karen Harris, a 1990 GRC graduate, coached the championship GRC cheerleading team from 1992 to 2003.
Sylvania retirees meeting April 11
Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram/UAW retirees will meet for lunch 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, at the Blue Isle in Winchester. All retirees and former employees of the Winchester Sylvania plant are welcome.
Community Education classes offered
The following Community Education classes begin next week:
— Personal Safety for Women, 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, April 10 through May 1, $55.
— Diabetic Management Series, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, April 11 through May 2, free. Held in coordination with Clark County Health Department.
— Home Cooking on the Go, 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, April 11 and 18, $50.
— QuickBooks – Intermediate, 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays, April 11-25, $50.
