Hydrant flushings continue today

Winchester Municipal Utilities will be flushing hydrants in the following areas Monday: Barnes Drive, Cherry Street, Court Street, Early Drive, Flynn Avenue, North Highland Street, Hill Street, Holly Avenue, Interstate Drive, Linden Avenue, Magnolia Street, North Main Street, North Maple Street, Mount Sterling Road, Old Paris Pike, Regan Drive, Sycamore Street, Wall Street, East Washington Street and West Washington Street.

BCTC hosting blood drive 

The Kentucky Blood Center Bloodmobile will be at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College Winchester-Clark County campus from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, April 17.

Generation Center hosting medication safety program 

The James B. Allen Generation Center, 32 Meadow St., will  host a free educational program about medication safety provided by Maria Chapman of the Kentucky Poison Control Center at 10:20 a.m. Thursday, April 20. For more information, contact Diana Sims at 744-3235.

Writers group meeting Tuesday

The Clark County Writers Group will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Clark County Public Library conference room.

School board meetings 

There will be a special meeting of the Clark County School District Finance Corporation at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Central Office, 1600 W. Lexington Ave. The purpose of the meeting is to consider adopting a resolution authorizing the issuance of school building energy conservation revenue bonds for building purposes.

There will also be a regular meeting of the Clark County Board of Education at 6:30 p.m. Both are open to the public.

Stool weaving workshop to be held

The Clark County Sassie Craft Homemakers Club is sponsoring a stool weaving workshop at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at the Clark County Extension Office. The class costs $35, which included all supplies. For more information or to register, call the extension office at 744-4682.

First Settlers meeting Tuesday

There will be a meeting for residents of southern Clark County at the First Settlers House on Old Boonesboro Road at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Sylvania retirees meeting Tuesday

Winchester GTE/Sylvania/Osram/UAW retirees will meet for lunch 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Blue Isle in Winchester. All retirees and former employees of the Winchester Sylvania plant are welcome.

GRC site-based council to meet

The George Rogers Clark HIgh School-based decision-making council will meet at 4 p.m. Monday at the school’s SBDM conference room.

Clark County Democrats meeting

The Clark County Democrat Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 17, at Golden Corral.  All registered Democrats are invited.

5K to raise funds for cheer scholarship

Organizers of the Karen T. Harris GRC Senior Cheerleader Scholarship will host a 5K at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at the Campbell Jr. High School track.

Funds raised at the 5K will be used to give scholarships of $200 to $400 for post-secondary education expenses. Funds collected more than $400 will be donated to the American Heart Association.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. and fellowship will take place after the race from noon to 1 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and an additional $5 for children of participating runners/walkers. Pre-register or donate by emailing ruthannetts@twc.com.

The late Karen Harris, a 1990 GRC graduate, coached the championship GRC cheerleading team from 1992 to 2003.

Youth fishing day May 13

The Clark County Fish and Game Club’s annual youth fishing day will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 13 at the clubhouse on Water Works Road. The event is free and open to all youth 15 and younger. AARP offers tax preparation help

The AARP Tax-Aide Foundation program will offer free tax preparation, counseling and electronic filing Mondays and Tuesdays until April 18 at the Central Baptist Church annex, 101 W. Lexington Ave. Taxpayers should bring their 2015 tax return and all documents showing 2016 income. Those itemizing should also bring proof of taxes paid and contributions.
