Freshmen at George Rogers Clark High School learned about the dangers of alcohol and drug use and the potential ramifications of substance abuse Friday during the Truth and Consequences reality fair.

The fair was put together by a large coalition, including the Clark County Extension Office, local law enforcement and first responders, representatives from the courts and more.

Students began the day listening to testimonies from people who struggled with drug abuse, as well as a parent who tragically lost her son to an overdose.

They then experienced what alcohol intoxication was like with representatives of the Winchester Police Department and the Clark County Agency for Substance Abuse Policy, being given simple tasks to complete while wearing beer goggles that altered their perception.

Students also were assigned fictional scenarios based on choices they could make that led them to speak with medical, legal and other professionals about the potential consequences.

The program was finished with a demonstration of an auto accident responded to by Winchester Fire and EMS.
