The group converting the former Trapp Elementary into a shelter for female veterans is hosting a motorcycle rally this Saturday at the school.

The event is family-friendly and will include a number of activities, Lady Veterans Connect member Wanda Martin said.

Motorcyclists are invited to ride their bikes to the school Saturday. Lunch will be available at 1:30 p.m. for a donation, she said.

Admission is $10, which will help fund the transformation and replacement of the coal-fired furnace, she said.

There will also be an auction at the school, coupled with a raffle of a 2016 Brute Force 300 all-terrain vehicle. Raffle tickets are $100 each. There will also be a 50-50 raffle, she said, as well as live music.

The auction includes a wide variety of items, she said.

“We got a lot of stuff donated and made for us,” Martin said. “It’ll be a fabulous auction.”

Lady Veterans Connect purchased the building a year ago with plans to convert it into a facility to house up to 35 female veterans and their children to help with a number of issues. The biggest expense has been replacing the furnace. Once the new furnace is purchased and installed, the shelter could open quickly, she said.

Model rooms are set up for public display, she said, and tours will be available.
