MAYhem just another reason to go downtown

A group of downtown business people is making plans for special monthly shopping events they hope will garner interest in shopping locally.

The growth of the downtown business community has encouraged some owners in the area to band together and host events during the “off months” when the Main Street Winchester program does not have anything planned.

The goal of the events is to spread the message that there is always something going on downtown.

The first event coincides with the Rock the Block concert series Saturday. During Downtown MAYhem, participating businesses will have special balloons outside their stores indicating they are part of the MAYhem, and they will be offering unique specials between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

At least 21 businesses will be participating in the event, including restaurants and retail stores.

This event is another in a long line designed to garner more interest in downtown Winchester, all of which are part of a recent push to revive the once-thriving business district.

Downtown Winchester has seen steady growth in the past three years with a variety of boutiques, restaurants and specialty stores opening.

If you haven’t shopped downtown lately, it’s likely you are missing out on some wonderful locally-owned businesses.

Shopping local keeps your dollars in your community, which will encourage more business growth.

We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to shop some deals and support your neighbors this weekend.

And while you’re there, enjoy some entertainment and a meal at a local eatery.
