“There’s nothing to do here.”

It’s the statement made about every small town, and it’s just not true.

A partnership with several community organizations is proving that here in Winchester and Clark County.

A new online community calendar is aimed at keeping the public better informed of what is happening throughout the community.

The calendar is funded through a partnership among organizations including WKYN, the City of Winchester, Clark County government, Winchester-Clark County Tourism, the Clark County Industrial Authority, Clark County Public Schools, the Clark County Extension Office, the Clark County Health Department, The Winchester Sun and the Clark County Public Library.

The calendar is live at www.winchestercommunitycalendar.com.

There you will find color-coded  events under several catergoris: civic, educational, entertainment, heath/wellness oriented, government, youth-directed or youth sports.

This partnership is more than just an efficient way to compile various calendars. It speaks volumes about the age-old myth that you have to travel outside our community to find something to do.

From local sporting events, theater productions, educational opportunities and festivals, there are many things to do in Clark County, and the opportunities keep growing.

The issue is sometimes we might have to travel to find something we want to do that is different. Every community can’t offer everything, but we are lucky enough to live in a region where we are surrounded by a great variety of recreational opportunities.

The truth is Clark County attracts people from these communities as often as we travel there.

The good news is locals, visitors and tourists now have a “one stop shop” to find all the fun, interesting and educational things to do in our community.
