NEWELL, Dr. Alvinia Betty, of Dayton departed this life on Friday, May 19, 2017. Dr. Newell was born August 18, 1949 to the late Walter and Mary Francis Newell in Winchester, KY. She graduated from George Rogers Clark High School. Dr. Newell graduated from Kentucky State University, where she earned her B.S. in Chemistry/Biology. She received a D.M.D. in Dentistry from the University of Kentucky, College of Dentistry in 1975. Dr. Newell was a member of the American Dental Association, Kentucky Dental Association, Ohio Dental Association, Blue Grass, Dental Society, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., KY State Alumni Assoc., Phi Beta Kappa, and elected into “Who’s Who of America Colleges and Universities. Dr. Newell was a faithful member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Ruling Elder, Deacon, member of the Culinary Arts (committee), Senior Choir, and a member of the Presbyterian Women. Dr. Newell is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, William Newell, and a sister, Teresa Jones. She leaves to cherish her memory: (2) brothers, Walter Newell Jr. of Winchester, KY and Robert (Mary) Newell of Dayton, OH; (5) sisters, Dr. Cora Fletcher of Berea, KY, Martha Hickman of Bardstown, KY, Anna (Norman) Willis of Chicago, IL, Dorothy (Carl) Bankston of Hendersonville, Tenn. and Dr. Beatrice Newell of Winchester, KY; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., WEDNESDAY, May 24, 2017 at TRINITY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 3211 Lakeview Ave., with Pastor Ronald P. Lawrence, officiating. Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m.; the family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. until time of service.
