Thankful for students’ messages to veterans

I would like to thank all the students and schools who participated in the Honor Flight program in sending our veterans, including me, to Washington, D.C., to visit the memorials that honor us on April 22.

It was a journey that will never be forgotten.

A surprise — one of many — was the “mail call,” the time we received your notes and letters — always a favorite time for service members, mail from home and loved ones.

We of the past know that the future of our nation is in very good hands because of young people like you.

It was an emotional journey for us as we remember why we were on an Honor Flight. It was also an honor to serve our country when we were needed.

Thank you once again.

Government should share responsibility of protection

I have a question I believe needs some public discussion.

What gives the county and state governments the right to force marital partners to divorce or else pay dearly through the nose when they refuse to divorce their alcoholic spouse?

Point in case: The “supporting” wife pays financially for the offender’s court offenses although she does not supply his beverage for him. He games the system without changing. She pays. Government profits.

What happened to personal accountability?

The government must share its responsibility or it is protecting those from whom we all need to be protected from.
