Lions honor oldest Clark club member

Winchester’s longest-serving Lions Club member was recently recognized by the the organization’s international president.

Glenn Thornberry, who turned 108 in March, has been a member of the Winchester Lions Club for 85 years, fellow member Frank Farmer said.

Thornberry recently received a letter from Chancellor Bob Corlew, the international president of the organization.

“Your compassion and dedicated work alongside the members of your club have improved the lives of people in your community and around the globe,” Corlew’s letter states. “Lions lead by example and the world has noticed.”

“He was one of the best we ever had,” Farmer said of Thornberry. “Every time we had a project, he was ready to go. He was an inspiration to us all.”

Thornberry is a past president of the Winchester club.

As a businessman, he ran Thornberry’s Market on Main Street and a wholesale grocery business on Broadway Street for many years in downtown Winchester.
