WPD arrests 23 for drug trafficking

Nearly two dozen people went to jail this week as Winchester Police officers and detectives served a slew of drug trafficking indictment warrants.

Winchester Police Capt. James Hall said a special grand jury session last week resulted in a number of sealed indictments for drug trafficking charges. The indictments are the result of months of investigations by detectives, he said.

The bulk of the suspects were arrested Wednesday, Hall said, though one was picked dup Friday morning, he said. There are still about a half-dozen warrants remaining, he said.

“We still have a few we have sealed indictments for but are unable to locate at this time,” he said.

None of cases were related to each other, he said.

“A lot of them, we have at least one buy on and several we have multiple buys on,” he said.

He said police build their cases through making drug buys.

“If we buy off them several times, who knows how much they’re selling to the rest of the world?” Hall said.

Most of those arrested were allegedly selling oxycodone, though others were charged with selling methamphetamine, heroin and suboxone, he said.

“Anything they’re selling, we’re buying.” Hall said.
