Two Clark residents killed in Sunday crash

A single-vehicle accident on the Mountain Parkway killed two Clark County residents and injured three others Sunday evening.

According to Kentucky State Police in Morehead, 18-year-old Melissa Haddix was traveling west when she lost control of her vehicle and it overturned, coming to rest on its roof in the eastbound lane.

The accident happenedĀ near the 14 mile marker on the Parkway, a couple miles past the Clark County line. State police said the accident was reported at 6:38 p.m. Sunday. No other vehicles were involved.

Haddix and a passenger, 20-year-old Rayna Cross of Winchester, were pronounced dead at the scene by the Powell County coroner. A second passenger, 22-year-old Mary Ripy of Winchester, was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center and is in stable condition, according to KSP.

Two other passengers, 23-year-old Hakeem Floyd and 18-year-old Steven Fraley, both of Winchester, were treated and released from Clark Regional Medical Center, police said.

The accident remains under investigation by KSP Trooper Brandon Burton.
