Morris E. Futrell

Morris E. Futrell, a former longtime resident of Winchester, went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2017 at the age of 96. He is preceded by his wife (Laura Nell Futrell), a daughter (Melody Kyle Futrell), father and mother (Bufalo Bill and Vesta Lee Futrell), brothers Sisler Brown Futrell and Alfred Cullen Futrell and sisters Rosella Stearns and Katherine Limberg. Mr. Futrell is survived by his son; Keith M Futrell (Deborah) of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter Morra Dawn Henriksen of Louisville; and daughter Lisa Marie McGuire(Ron) of Raeford, NC. Mr. Futrell is also survived by two sisters; Anna Lee Cochran of Collinsville, Il. and Sue Crouch of Morristown,Tn; granddaughters Sarah-Jane Reel, Katherine Lynn Grindle and Laurann Slusher and great-grandchildren William Keith Briggs, Emily Jane Briggs, Brianna Grace Grindle, Raylan Cole Grindle and Shelby Olivia Grindle, Sierra Slusher and Trenton Slusher. Mr Futrell was a veteran of WWll and served in the US Marine Corps in the South Pacific. While on active duty in the 1940’s he made landings on Okinawa, Bougainville and Guam. As part of the 6th Marine Division, they accepted the Japanese surrender at Tsingtao, China. He later earned a Master of Arts Degree from Murray State College, began a longtime career with Southern Bell and eventually retired from AT&T. The Futrell’s were longtime members of First Baptist Church in Winchester. Mr Futrell was also a Gideon and member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, VFW, American Legion and Marine Corps League. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. till 11:00 a m.. Saturday June 10, and services at 11:00 a.m., at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, Winchester Ky. Interment will be in the Winchester Cemetery.
