Muddy Creek kitchen fire still under investigation

County and city firefighters spent about two hours on the scene of a kitchen fire at a house on Muddy Creek Road Tuesday evening.

The fire was reported by a neighbor, Clark County Fire Chief Billy Jones said.

Following the initial call around 5:15 p.m., Winchester Fire-EMS firefighters and an ambulance responded as well for mutual aid.

Jones said the cause of the fire is under investigation, as the resident was not currently living in the home.

When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke coming from the house, Jones said. Firefighters didn’t know if anyone was in the home at the time, he said, and a search uncovered no one.

The fire was contained to the kitchen, he said, and caused little structural damage to the single-story wood frame home.

The house is a little more than two miles from downtown Winchester.

The owner’s name was not available at press time.
