Although Saturday and Sunday are looking like prime days to relax around Winchester-Clark County, today’s schedule is chock full of free and fun things to do around town.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the College for Technical Education cosmetology program will celebrate its fifth year in Winchester. The celebration, which continues until 2 p.m., will include free food, games, face-painting, hair extensions and balloon animals. The school is located at 2135 Bypass Road.
This evening, Kentucky Bank will take a trip down memory lane as employees open a time capsule left by the bank staff in 1965. The opening of the time capsule will be at 5:30 p.m. at the downtown Kentucky Bank location, 24 W. Lexington Ave. The time capsule is being opened as the branch prepares to begin construction of a new downtown branch on Maple Street.
Those wanting to hit the town tonight can look forward to a free flick, some tunes from a local band and some free school supplies to boot.
The 20th annual back-to-school Readifest will begin at 7 p.m. at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, 2020 Rolling Hills Lane.
Visitors can stop by vendors’ booths to pick up various school supplies, from pencils to folders, coloring supplies and backpacks. About 50 vendors, some businesses and some community organizations, have registered to take part in this year’s Readifest.
The annual supply festival is running in conjunction with BCTC’s third installment of the annual Moonlight Movie Nights. Besides the free school supplies, visitors can also expect inflatables, food vendors and a showing “The LEGO Batman Movie” at 9 p.m.
Back in downtown Winchester, the air will be filled with the music of local band Primecut during the Rock the Block summer concert series from 7 to 9 p.m. on the courthouse lawn.
